I ran for Layton City Council in 2019. I had never run for any public office but felt a call to serve the community where I was raising my family. I made a few promises along the campaign trail. I owe it to the voters to account for the things I said I would do.
I promised that I would explain each and every vote that I took.
During the last 3+ years I have posted vote explanations for every vote that I have taken while serving on the City Council. I have a 100% attendance record during my time in office and have shared those votes publicly on both my website and my Facebook page. My hope is that these explanations have assisted interested residents in better understanding not only how I voted the way I did—but why I did so. I never assume everyone will agree with my reasoning. But I made a promise and I endeavor to keep it.
I promised that I would make city government more transparent by live streaming City Council meetings.
During my first few weeks in office, we as a City Council unanimously approved a streaming platform for all of our Council meetings. Layton City has streamed each and every meeting since that time. I believe this has made our government much more accountable and available to our residents.
What other things have I accomplished since I was elected? Mere months after taking office, the Covid pandemic was thrust upon us and elected officials throughout the world were provided a chance to show their priorities in a difficult time.
Despite the challenges with the pandemic, inflation, and beyond, we have accomplished important things as a city since 2019:
What's next?
I strive to keep Layton the best place to live, work, recreate, and raise a family. I promise a continued path of fiscal conservatism, support for public safety and infrastructure, and a measured voice for local control of our shared future.
Please don’t hesitate in reaching out with any questions or comments. And I ask for your vote! - Zach
